It was 82 degrees and partly sunny for day one at the Republican National Convention located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Members of PoliticsFitzU started their day off at the NH Delegate breakfast. Speeches were given by Congressman Ryan Zinke, Senator Scott Brown, and retired Staff Sgt. David Bellavia. Staff Sgt. David Bellavia attended Franklin Pierce University from 1995-1997.

While at the NH Delegate Breakfast, Ashley Stevens ’17 used Periscope to live broadcast Senator Scott Brown and retired Staff Sgt. David Bellavia’s speeches. “I am so fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity to learn what is expected for social media platforms and being able to learn how to operate certain equipment and apps,” said Ashley.

Once the NH Delegate Breakfast finished, members of PoliticsFitzU headed over to Quicken Loans Arena to conduct interviews, speak to the Boston Herald, and write articles.

Margaret Bell ’18 and Matt Scoville ’18 had the opportunity to interview Christopher Nixon Cox. Cox is the grandson of President Nixon and son of Ed Cox, who is Chair of the New York Republican State Committee. Bell and Scoville learned that Cox believes that supporting Trump will block a possible future Clinton administration.

Alex Malm ’17 spoke with Hillary Chabot from the Boston Herald about what is expected to happen and take place this week at the Convention. Malm also interviewed a few delegates about gun violence and gun control. He then took this information to write an article for the Boston Herald.
