Bianca Acebron Peco’s Campaign Editorial

This is an editorial that will be running in the next issue of The Pierce Arrow, set to come out Thursday, March 14.

Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been known to my family as the “little politician.” I’m sure that’s no surprise to a lot of people. With a goal-oriented mindset and a thirst for success, nothing was going to stop me from my most important goal, education. I’m a first generation American citizen and the first member of my family to attend a university. My entire family is native to Spain; I have a dual citizenship.

As a Political Science Major, minoring in Intelligence and Security studies, I’ve dedicated my studies and my life to politics more than the average student. I’ve been in the Student Government Association (SGA) since my freshmen year. For two years, I served as Class President and this past year as the College Democrat Club Representative. For the next school year, I’m running for the Student Body President of the SGA.  My main goal is to represent my peers.

I believe that voting in an election is the most important part of the political process. I feel a connection because my sister and dad choose not to vote, even though they have dual citizenship. My mother cannot vote at all, because she isn’t a U.S. citizen.

That’s inspired me to always be an active voter, and an active candidate for various elections as well. I was chosen for the Capital Area Student Leadership (CASL) program my sophomore year of high school. I was Class Historian for two years in high school, and Public Relations Officer my senior year, graduating with honors and a Granite State Scholar.  As an FPU freshman, I won the Presidential class election and held the position into my sophomore year. This year I’ve fully dedicated myself to the College Democrats Club.

Winning SGA President would mean everything to me. I believe that there needs to be some work done within the school. Everyone assumes that administrators won’t listen to them, however, I find this assumption false because the officials at this school are amazing. The fact that President Birge has open office hours and that Jim Earle always has time for a student is incredible. I am only one voice, but by winning this election, I’ll have the voices of students behind me.

I believe that the leadership skills I’ve obtained throughout my young career will propel me into this great opportunity.  I kindly ask for your vote on March 13, 2013. Students can vote in the Glass Foyer from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.  I would also like to remind the students that even though everyone calls me Bia, on the ballot I will have the name Bianca Acebron Peco.
