Letter from the Editor, Amelia Walters

Dear students, faculty and staff,

Welcome back! I hope you all had wonderful summers and you are excited to begin a great year at Franklin Pierce! My name is Amelia Walters, I am currently a senior and the Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the Pierce Arrow for this academic year. The Pierce Arrow staff has been planning some exciting new things for this year and we are especially excited for the 50th Anniversary of our school. It will be an eventful year and we are prepared to bring you a top-grade newspaper, the best this school has ever seen.

Being a part of this organization and the Fitzwater Center has been one of my best experiences at Franklin Pierce. I have learned so much about the school and journalism through the newspaper. If I was not part of the paper, I would not be as involved as I am now, truthfully. I have seen so many aspects of the school. Interviewing for articles lets you meet numerous people, who you have maybe never seen before. I am so lucky to have been a part of the Fitzwater Center, and all of the people I have met here have impacted my life at Pierce in positive ways. This will be my fourth year working on the Pierce Arrow and I have great expectations for it. I want to get as many students as possible involved with this newspaper. You don’t have to be a journalism major or mass communications major to be on our staff. I’m a biology major and an environmental science minor, and proof that anyone from any discipline can get involved with the paper! I was not isolated in the science department, I am involved in so much more on campus. If you would like to become a part of our group, come to our first meeting.

To the freshmen and incoming students: student involvement is very important at Franklin Pierce because students are the voice of the campus. Without it, Franklin Pierce is lifeless. So I urge you to GET INVOLVED in as much as you can. Our campus has so much to offer, you just have to seek it out. Your four years here will go by so quickly and it is important to take everything in and do as much as you can. Being a part of the paper, working at the campus center and once being involved with SGA, has made me see almost everything that goes on at this university. Go to events! You can meet so many people and then that opens different doors to other aspects you might not have even seen before. Go to sporting events and support athletes. Games are awesome, and we have two new sports this year, go out and support the teams! Not on a sports team, but interested in sports? Join intramurals because there are numerous events they put on and again, you will meet a lot of new people. There are many clubs and organizations on campus, for example community service, medical club, BRO, and SGA. Go to the club fair to meet the leaders of the clubs and find out how you can get involved.

This is set to be an amazing year for Franklin Pierce. Keep a close eye out for exciting things to happen with the Pierce Arrow, and the exciting things that will happen during the 50th Anniversary year. If you want to become a part of the Pierce Arrow, feel free to email me at Arrowpublisher@gmail.com. Everyone is welcome! Again, welcome back and welcome to Pierce!

Sincerely,
Amelia Walters
Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the Pierce Arrow
